Class Two is a mixed Year 1 and Year 2 class taught by Mrs Wilson and Mrs Smith, as a job share. We are supported daily by Mrs Jones. We aim to create a lively and stimulating learning environment where children feel happy and secure.
Whilst in Class Two, the children are encouraged to build on their experiences in Class One, their enthusiasm and eagerness to learn is nurtured as they grow in confidence and independence during their time in Class Two. Children are encouraged to try their best and to begin to take more responsibility for themselves and their belongings.
The Key Stage One curriculum is followed with English (Read, Write Inc) and Maths being taught in the mornings. To enable smaller group teaching Class Two are divided into year groups, Year Two’s are taught by Mrs Webster with the assistance of Mrs Tighe. The Year Ones are taught by Mrs Wilson and Mrs Smith and are supported by Mrs Jones. In the afternoon the children are together as a class for cross-curricular topic work. Year Two children have the opportunity to come together to learn to play the recorder as part of the music curriculum.
Topics usually start with engaging first hand experiences building upon the child’s prior knowledge. This may involve a visitor, or a trip, role play and drama creating a real purpose for writing and a range of exciting learning opportunities across the curriculum.
During their time in Class Two, learning becomes more structured, as they begin to take more responsibility for their own learning in preparation for the transition to Key Stage Two.
