Mrs Wendy Priday – Chair
I am a Foundation Governor on the Governing Body. I live in Eardisland and I am one of the two Foundation appointments made by Eardisland PCC. My own three children all attended Kingsland School and I have been a Governor now for over 25 years. I was Treasurer for two years and have been Chair since 1999. As chair I also serve on the executive committee of The Herefordshire Association of Governors keeping all governors in touch with each other and the local authority. I see my particular role as overseeing the ongoing support system for this amazing village school with its wonderful children and staff. We are the school’s accountable body, responsible for its conduct and promoting high standards throughout all areas, giving a first class education for all our children and ensuring their safety and wellbeing at all times.
Cllr Sebastian Bowen
I was born in India and lived there until I was 6 before moving to Kashmir – perhaps the most beautiful place in the world. I then lived in Botswana, South Africa for the next 5 years and spent time at school in Johannesburg.
I have been living locally for many years and have the privilege of being your Councillor for over 9 years and an LA Governor at this school for about 12 years with responsibility for Special Needs, Eco Schools, Conservation and Travel Plan.
I think Kingsland School is one of the best in the country let alone the county and I am impressed by its achievements. I am currently Vice Chairman of the Governors and Chairman of Children’s Services Scrutiny Committee and being a school Governor at Kingsland helps me to keep in touch with the real world of education.
Mr Mark Bishop
I have been a Foundation Governor at Kingsland School for over 25 years. I am in business locally and my special areas of interest are Health and Safety, Finance and Buildings. I have collaborated on most of the building projects including the hall extension and more recently the classroom extensions. I have lived in the village for 14 years and attend the church. I also learnt to ring the bells during my youth. I have had the privilege of being involved in the appointment of the last 2 headteachers. I am committed to Kingsland School and its staff and pupils and will endeavour to ensure it continues to thrive.
I am one of two parent governors elected by parents of children at Kingsland School. I have two children at the school and another one due to start school life next year. I am fully committed to the school and strive to encourage the independent and determined learning of all the children whilst they are in our care. Within the Governor role I am involved with Health & Safety, Finance & Premises and have just taken on the role of Treasurer. I have also taken on the Governor liaison for EYFS and the Outside Learning spectrum in the school. You learn something new every day.
I am a staff governor, representing the teaching staff of the school. As deputy Headteacher, I am responsible for leading maths, assessment and ICT and am fully involved in the life of the school. I passionately believe in ensuring the children achieve their potential, and promoting high standards throughout Kingsland CE Primary School.
I was very pleased to be invited to represent the teaching staff on the Board of Governors. Having been a member of staff for the past ten years I feel that I can contribute to discussions and decision making with integrity.
I was Foundation Governor for my children’s primary school for a period of four years in the 1990’s with specific responsibility for Special Educational Needs.
Dr Jeremy Gray
I am a foundation governor and have been a governor at the school for 4 years. My daughter and her two older brothers both attended the school before moving on to Wigmore High School. I am a General Practitioner and have worked at the village surgery for 12 years. My areas of particular focus in the school are numeracy, science, foreign languages, and admissions.
Mrs Melanie Gittoes
I am a Foundation Governor representing the Parish of Eardisland. We have a Son Sam and a Daughter Ellie. Both of our children had an exceptional start in life during their time at Kingsland School. I have been a Governor for over 10 years and have served in many roles including Treasurer. I proudly and passionately serve as a Governor and rise to the challenges it brings.
I am a Foundation Governor representing the village of Eardisland and appointed by the Diocese of Hereford. For over 20 years I worked at the BBC both in radio and television. I worked in such diverse departments as Children’s, Light Entertainment, Religious Broadcasting and Talks. For a number of years I was a researcher on Children in Need. My husband was a G.P. in rural Kent where we lived for 20 years. I have a son and a step-daughter and three grandchildren. We moved to Eardisland when my husband retired in 1997 and we are both very involved in our local church where I am Churchwarden. I have only been a Governor for just over a year but I am already very impressed by the education and the care the children receive at the school.’
I represent the support staff on the Governing Body. My daughter attended Kingsland School and played ‘Mrs Sowerberry‘ in the school production of ‘Oliver’. I have lived in Holland and seen their educational system and I can bring that experience with me to this role. I am looking forward to being part of a team who are responsible for making sure the school provides the best for all the children.
I am School Administrator and Clerk to the Governors. I grew up in Kingsland and attended the school. I also sang in the choir and rang the bells at the Church. I enjoy all aspects of school life and the day to day running of the office. My role as clerk gives me an insight into the responsibilities of Governors and how an effective Governing Body contributes to the development and ethos of a school.
